We are still roughly two months away from the Los Angeles Lakers tipping off their 2025 season, so that means that the trade rumors surrounding LeBron James will continue to swirl.
The latest one, while not too outlandish, does pose an interesting proposition.
Mark Morales-Smith of Sports Illustrated proposed a trade idea that would send both LeBron and Bronny James to the New York Knicks, in exchange for a rather enticing package.
Los Angeles Lakers – New York Knicks Trade Scenario
In this scenario, the Knicks would receive:
- Forward – LeBron James
- Guard – Bronny James
And the Lakers would receive:
- Forward – OG Anunoby
- Guard – Josh Hart
- 1st Round Pick
LeBron James is still one of the best players in the world, even at his age. So, in terms of a single-season acquisition, the Knicks would clearly win this trade.
However, the Los Angeles Lakers have made it very clear, as they should, that Luka Doncic is the face of the franchise, and they will build around him for the future. This trade actually would do that.
Ultimately, they would be slightly worse this season with the loss of James, but Hart and Anunoby are nice rotational, complementary pieces for the future, and that first-round pick would be extremely enticing for a team with little to no draft capital.

Last season, Josh Hart averaged 13.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 5.9 assists. He is a quality guard who would give the Lakers 35+ minutes a game, if needed.
Anunoby averaged 18 points per game and 4.8 rebounds last season. At 6’7, he would be a nice wing player who could also give JJ Redick 35+ minutes a game.
