Having LeBron James opt into his player option for the 2025-26 NBA season may have been the most significant development of the Los Angeles Lakers’ offseason. Yet, the Lakers may not be done making upgrades to the roster.
According to ESPN’s NBA reporter Marc J. Spears, the Lakers may still have interest in signing Al Horford too. But they’re not alone.
Spears mentioned the Lakers as one of several teams potentially chasing the former NBA Champion, in addition to the Golden State Warriors, Milwaukee Bucks, and Atlanta Hawks.
“Golden State expected him to sign last week, he didn’t. Lakers, Milwaukee, Atlanta I believe are also interested…he’s still considering retiring, he’s not in any hurry. You know who I think’s gonna be in this decision: His 10-year son”

While the Warriors could still be pursuing the five-time All-Star, the 39-year-old Puerto Rican native is expected to prioritize a competitive situation that helps him contend for another championship.
Will that opportunity present itself with the Lakers? LeBron James sure hopes so, and if he hops on board, Horford will be there with him, every step of the way.
