Conflicting Reports On Los Angeles Lakers Remaining Offseason Could Foil Center Duo

The Los Angeles Lakers have had a busy offseason so far. They added Jake LaRavia and Deandre Ayton earlier in the offseason, and more recently, they signed defensive star Marcus Smart.

Since then, there have been plenty of rumors and players linked to the Lakers. There were talks of LA being a potential fit for Jrue Holiday if the Trail Blazers decided to move him. The Los Angeles Lakers were also linked to big man Robert Williams, based on having the best betting odds to land him.

However, according to one analyst, these rumors may be moot as he believes the Lakers’ roster is set for the upcoming season.

NBA Insider Says Los Angeles Lakers Are Done Making Moves

Brett Siegel of Clutch Points just did his fan mailbag, answering questions from fans. In it, he wrote about the Lakers and his belief that they are done making moves, at least until after the season begins.

“After signing Marcus Smart, it does appear as if the Lakers are locked into their roster for the 2025-26 season,” writes Siegel. “Los Angeles is currently about $1 million below the first apron with 14 of their 15 roster spots filled. Hypothetically speaking, the Lakers could still look to add a veteran free agent remaining on the market, someone like Brogdon or Payton.”

Personally, I would not think the Lakers will look to the free agent pool to add anyone else. They are content with who they currently have, and only a trade to upgrade a position would make any sense.

Siegel continues, “This seems like the Lakers’ roster entering training camp, and they addressed key needs this offseason — finding a consistent center and addressing their 3-and-D depth on the perimeter. I fully expect Los Angeles to be busy before the 2026 NBA trade deadline, seeing as they have roughly $44 million in expiring contracts, not including LeBron James.”

As their roster is currently constructed, the starting five would likely be:

  • Luka Doncic – PG
  • Austin Reaves – SG
  • Rui Hachimura – SF
  • LeBron James – PF
  • Deandre Ayton – C

This could actually be one of the better starting fives in the entire NBA, and they would have Marcus Smart, Jake LaRavia, and Dalton Knecht all coming off the bench as valuable depth pieces.
