Following Zion Williamson’s one-game suspension for violating team policies, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith says the forward’s time in New Orleans is essentially over and Smith named the Los Angeles Lakers as a top destination for the 24-year-old.
“Zion doesn’t want to be in New Orleans, he doesn’t want to be there,” Smith said on ESPN’s First Take (1:45 mark). “He wants to be in a major market like L.A., New York, or whatever because he wants the marketability.”
Could the Lakers Be A Good Fit For Williamson

If the Lakers were to get a deal done, it would build a historic frontcourt with a high offensive potential, gathering Williamson with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The biggest concern would be his availability and concerns about his dedication and work habits.
Injury concerns are already at a heightened status within the organization, with Davis and James both at risk of missing significant time due to injury.
Williamson is averaging 21.8 points over eight games, with 7.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists.
The Lakers have a lot of experience with the New Orleans Pelicans. In July 2019, the Pelicans traded Davis to LA in exchange for Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, and three first-round draft picks, including the No. 4 overall selection in the 2019 NBA draft.
On December 8, 2011, New Orleans agreed to a three-team trade that would have sent Chris Paul to Los Angeles. However, NBA Commissioner David Stern intervened, nullifying the deal on the grounds that it would not be in the best interests of the New Orleans franchise.
