Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Dončić returned last night from a finger injury as the Lakers played their first NBA Cup game against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Luka picked up right where he left off, topping 40 points for a 3rd straight game to go along with 6 assists and 12 rebounds as the Lakers defeated the Grizzlies in Memphis 117-112.

Luka Dončić is off to a historic start to the season and is currently averaging an astounding 45 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists per game through his first 3 games, becoming the only player other than Wilt Chamberlain to top over 40 points in the first 3 games of a season.

Luka Dončić Is Him

Dončić put an exclamation point on the night with a crossover move that took Grizzlies defender Vince Williams to the ground, and his shoes came flying off his feet. Even Williams’ own teammates laughed at him from the bench.

Despite some amazing stat lines from co-star Austin Reaves in Luka’s absence, Dončić reminded the NBA world why he is one of the best players in the league with yet another dominant performance.

Even though Luka Dončić will not keep up this historical pace for an entire NBA season, Dončić has established himself as a clear MVP frontrunner alongside Nikola Jokić and Victor Wembanyama.

Ja Morant Calls Out the Grizzlies Coaching Staff After the Loss

Even though it was a great Halloween night for the Lakers and their fans, the exact opposite can be said about the Grizzlies and their superstar, Ja Morant. Morant, who started the year off strong, had his worst night of the season, dropping just 8 points, shooting 3 of 14 from the field, as well as going 0 of 6 from 3-point range.

Morant, who is averaging a career low 28 minutes per game so far this season, lashed out at the Grizzlies’ coaching staff over his lack of minutes following the loss.

When reporters asked Morant what went wrong tonight, Morant repeatedly responded with “go ask the coaching staff.” When asked what else could have been done differently, Morant added, “According to them (the coaching staff), probably don’t play me, honestly. That’s basically what the message was.”

Following these comments, the Grizzlies announced they will be suspending Ja Morant for “content detrimental to the team.”

Luka and the Lakers will look to continue their hot streak against the Miami Heat on Sunday in Los Angeles, while the Grizzlies will need to do some soul-searching following a disastrous Halloween night loss.
