Los Angeles Lakers In Heated Competition For Last Remaining Top Center

Just over a week ago the Los Angeles Lakers were reportedly not interested in Nikola Vucevic. They had bigger fish to fry — engaged in talks for the likes of Indiana Pacers, Myles Turner, and Utah Jazz Walker Kessler. But now, hours before the NBA trade deadline, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype is reporting that “there’s a growing sense the Bulls” want to trade the big man after they already shipped Zach LaVine to the Sacramento Kings in the three-team deal that saw De’Aaron Fox end up on the San Antonio Spurs.

Scotto listed the Golden State Warriors and Lakers as interested suitors, although he also noted: “The Bulls have held out hope for a first-round pick for Vučević but may have to settle for multiple second-round picks.”

Vučević’s consistent production and all-around impact have made him a highly sought-after player in the NBA. His impressive averages of 19.9 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game, coupled with his efficient shooting (55.1% from the field, 40.1% from three-point range), have solidified his status as one of the league’s most productive centers.

Given his consistent performance and the significant impact he can have on a contending team, it is not surprising that Vučević is attracting interest from the Warriors and Lakers.

Beyond being conference, division and instate blood rivals, the Lakers and Warriors are also attempting to maximize the final years of LeBron James and Steph Curry. Both teams are in a desperate state in that regard.

For the Warriors, they have yet to spin a meaningful trade to elevate the team and lift the offensive burden off Curry.

For the Lakers, removing Anthony Davis has left a yawning chasm in the frontcourt. Luka Doncic can do a lot on a basketball court, but playing center is definitely not one of them.

The Lakers have tried and failed to materialize a trade for a big man despite being rumored to be calling on just about every big man in the league. Competing for that player with a team as needy as the Warriors won’t help them in the pursuit of Vucevic.
