Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Dončić has been listed as questionable for Sunday’s matchup against the Sacramento Kings due to a left finger sprain, according to the team’s injury report. As Jovan Buha of The Athletic reported, Dončić sustained the injury early in Friday’s win over the Minnesota Timberwolves and played through it with his finger wrapped for the rest of the game.
It’s the latest minor concern for Dončić, who also appeared to tweak his groin during the season-opening loss to Golden State but managed to play through it. Despite the bumps and bruises, the 26-year-old has delivered a scorching start to his first full season in Los Angeles.

A Historic Opening Stretch for Luka Doncic

Gotta have the Latest from LA + LUKA Mind-meld
Through two games, Dončić has scored a combined 92 points — the most ever by a Laker to open a season. He dropped 43 points against the Warriors on opening night, then followed that with 49 in the win over Minnesota, becoming the first player in franchise history to post consecutive 40-point performances to start a year.
Beyond his scoring, Dončić has controlled nearly every possession for the Lakers, posting back-to-back double-doubles while narrowly missing triple-doubles in both games. He’s totaled 23 rebounds and 17 assists so far, showcasing the all-around dominance that prompted Los Angeles to make a blockbuster move for him this past summer.
JJ Redick’s Lighthearted Praise
Head coach JJ Redick was in good spirits following the victory over the Timberwolves, joking about his efforts to help Dončić hit the 50-point mark.
“There was some discussion around whether or not… I’m trying to get the guy 50. I’d already given him three chances,” Redick said with a grin. “I gave him a fourth chance, he gets fouled… he was awesome. I said, ‘I’ve given you three chances, you passed up a layup, gave up a wide open three — just take the shot.’”
Next Up For Lakers
The Lakers enter Sunday’s game at 1–1, looking to build early momentum despite a growing list of minor injuries. Along with Dončić, Jaxson Hayes (knee soreness) is also questionable, while Sacramento’s Zach LaVine is battling an illness.
For Los Angeles, keeping Dončić healthy may be as important as any win in October.
