Lakers Share Latest Luka Dončić Injury Timeline

Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Dončić opened the 2025-26 NBA season on a tear — and now, he’ll have to pause his momentum. After averaging 46.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 8.5 assists through his first two games, LA announced that Dončić will miss at least one week due to a sprained left finger and a bruised lower leg.

According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, Dončić will be re-evaluated next week. The Athletic’s Dan Woike added that there are “no long-term concerns here,” signaling optimism about a quick return.

While the injury sidelines Dončić temporarily, the Lakers view the setback as minor. The short re-evaluation window suggests the team expects him to recover quickly once swelling and soreness subside. Based on their schedule, Dončić could miss several games before being cleared to return to full action.

The organization has also emphasized that his offseason conditioning and fitness improvements should aid recovery. Dončić entered training camp in noticeably better shape after an intense summer regimen that improved his mobility and stamina.

Reaves, Lakers’ Depth Stepping Up

The timing of Dončić’s injury is less than ideal, as the Lakers are already without LeBron James, who remains sidelined with sciatic nerve irritation. Yet Austin Reaves rose to the occasion in Dončić’s absence, posting a remarkable 51 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists in a 127–120 win over the Sacramento Kings.

With upcoming games against the Trail Blazers, Timberwolves, and Grizzlies, Los Angeles will rely on Reaves, Deandre Ayton, and Marcus Smart to carry the load.

The Lakers remain confident Dončić won’t be out long — a promising sign for a team already showing resilience early in the season.
