Lakers Named Best Fit Trade Destination For 5x All-Star

PFSN’s Brandon Austin recently identified DeMar DeRozan as a logical trade target for the Los Angeles Lakers, citing his team-friendly contract. “He’s in a three-year, $73.89 million deal with a $24.75 million cap hit in 2025-26 and a $10 million partial guarantee in 2026-27,” Austin wrote. “That structure offers value to teams seeking short-term scoring help without long-term risk. With that said, he’s almost 36 and offers limited defensive impact, so his market may be limited to teams offering role players or picks.”

DeMar DeRozan had a standout 2024-25 season with the Sacramento Kings, averaging 22.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 4.4 assists on 47.7% shooting across 77 games. After the De’Aaron Fox trade, his scoring surged to 25.4 points on 55.8% shooting, while also surpassing 25,000 career points.

The Sacramento Kings are in a transitional phase under a new general manager and a rebuilding approach. Austin explained, “DeRozan’s midrange scoring remains elite, but his age, contract, and fit suggest Sacramento could move him after a disappointing season.” Trading him could give the Kings salary flexibility while acquiring assets aligned with their younger core.

For the Lakers, DeRozan represents an opportunity to add a proven scorer alongside LeBron James and Luka Dončić. A veteran who can reliably score 20-plus points per game and create for teammates could ease the load on Los Angeles’ stars, particularly in playoff situations. Austin noted that while DeRozan may require roster adjustments, his offensive versatility and leadership would strengthen the Lakers immediately.

One potential hurdle is the status of Austin Reaves. The Lakers might need to consider moving Reaves to accommodate DeRozan, but doing so could provide a more balanced and potent roster for championship contention.

Even at 35, DeRozan’s experience and elite scoring make him an intriguing option for the Lakers. Sacramento could benefit from shedding his contract and gaining future assets, while Los Angeles could gain a seasoned veteran capable of elevating the team’s title window.
