Clippers Star Gets Rare Opportunity Over 2025 Offseason Which Could Pay Big Dividends

For the first time in years, Kawhi Leonard is entering the summer without a rehab schedule—and for the Los Angeles Clippers, that alone is reason for optimism.

Following a frustrating first-round playoff exit to the Denver Nuggets, the Clippers are reflecting on a season that included flashes of promise. James Harden remained a steady playmaker, Norman Powell had one of his most efficient campaigns, and Ivica Zubac quietly made a leap as one of the league’s most improved big men.

But Leonard’s health continues to be the franchise’s swing factor. After missing the start of the season due to knee recovery, the two-time Finals MVP returned to form, anchoring both ends of the floor and playing all seven games in the postseason.

“He’s extremely excited because it’s the first time in a while he is not rehabbing from injury… and getting back to working,” Clippers president Lawrence Frank told ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk.

Frank also noted that Leonard trained continuously through the NBA Finals, aiming to strengthen his body for a potential run deep into June in future seasons.

A healthy Leonard remains one of the game’s premier two-way forces. Offensively, his midrange game is a steady weapon. Defensively, his combination of strength, reach, and anticipation continues to make life miserable for opposing scorers.

In just 37 regular-season games last year, Leonard averaged 21.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists. He elevated those numbers in the playoffs to 25 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game—reminding fans and executives alike of his championship-caliber impact.

After back-to-back first-round exits, the Clippers may explore roster upgrades. But if Leonard can enter 2025-26 healthy and in rhythm, they might already have their biggest difference-maker in place.
