Insider Says Clippers New Addition Will Be Secret Weapon, 12th Most Impactful Move

The Los Angeles Clippers enter the 2025-26 season with a roster reimagined in nearly every sense, and one of the most intriguing additions is three-time All-Star Bradley Beal. Chris Herring of ESPN ranked Beal as the league’s 12th most impactful newcomer, noting that “he should slot in beautifully as a third scorer, and the Clippers’ depth should benefit greatly from having him—and fellow newcomers Chris Paul and Brook Lopez—in reduced roles.”

After a tumultuous stint in Phoenix, where Beal played out the final years of a maximum contract alongside Kevin Durant and Devin Booker, the 32-year-old now arrives in LA with a more modest two-year deal and a clearer path to contribute. The expectation is that Beal will thrive as a versatile scoring option, capable of creating his own shot while complementing James Harden and Kawhi Leonard. With Leonard’s availability uncertain early in the season, Beal’s role may expand, offering the Clippers a reliable secondary scoring threat that they haven’t consistently had in recent years.

Defensively, Beal has historically been underrated. Clippers coach Tyronn Lue expressed confidence in his capabilities, telling Club Shay Shay, “Defensively, he’s always been good. But you gotta challenge him every night. If he’s on bad players, he’s not as good. But when he’s guarding a guy that can play, he’s a really good defender.” While Beal is slightly undersized at 6-foot-4 for a shooting guard, his experience and veteran savvy should help the Clippers maintain balance on both ends of the floor.

The real value Beal brings may be in flexibility. He can start alongside Harden, Leonard, and the frontcourt, or come off the bench to jumpstart the second unit alongside Chris Paul, Kris Dunn, and Brook Lopez. Either way, he adds a proven scoring option in high-leverage moments and alleviates pressure on Harden to carry the offense consistently.

Ultimately, Beal’s arrival gives the Clippers a depth boost that could be crucial during a long season. His scoring prowess, combined with the team’s reinforced rotation, positions LA as a serious contender in the Western Conference—and a team that can weather the ups and downs of injuries, rotation experiments, and high-stakes playoff runs.
