Insider Reveals 1st Domino To Fall For Los Angeles Clippers After Playoff Collapse

The Los Angeles Clippers’ season concluded with a 120-101 Game 7 loss to the Denver Nuggets, a result that ended a series where LA often appeared to be the stronger team. Despite playing some of their best basketball late in the season, including dominant victories over the Nuggets in Game 3 and, with their backs against the wall, in Game 6, they ultimately fell short in the decisive game.

With the season’s end, the Clippers now face a period of re-evaluation. While the composition of the future roster remains uncertain, it appears that James Harden and Kawhi Leonard will continue to be central figures. According to Law Murray of The Athletic, “It seems clear that the next stage, at least in the short term, will be centered around Harden and Leonard.” Murray further noted that “The Clippers are below the collective bargaining agreement’s first-apron threshold and intend to remain flexible with an eye toward the next two offseasons, according to league sources.”

A key initial decision involves James Harden, who, as Murray wrote, is “expected to be back” with the Clippers in some capacity, regardless of his $36.4 million player option for next season. Despite Harden’s inconsistent playoff performances, he carried the offensive load for much of the regular season and remains a highly skilled playmaker.

“According to league sources, continues Murray, “The first domino toward that is what happens with Harden, who has a player option worth $36.4 million for next season.”

Regardless of other roster changes, LA demonstrated their potential to contend with Harden and Leonard leading the way. The team was a formidable force in the Western Conference during the second half of the season, and they retain the potential for similar success in the upcoming year.

LA’s approach to roster construction remains to be seen. They may choose to retain their current depth or pursue a trade for a third star. However, it seems clear that Harden and Leonard will be back to lead the team next season.
