Starting LF Michael Conforto’s Trade Timeline With Los Angeles Dodgers Revealed

When the Los Angeles Dodgers signed Michael Conforto this past offseason, it was met with plenty of excitement.

For one, they were able to pluck him away from a rival in the San Francisco Giants. Secondly, they were getting a very solid player who was going to be one of the anchors of the outfield.

Last season, Conforto batted .237 with 20 home runs and 66 RBIs.

Unfortunately, this season has been one of the worst in his career.

Through 81 games, he is batting a paltry .176 with 8 home runs and 23 RBIs. His WAR is -0.9, the first time in his career that it is negative. Not exactly electrifying stats for a player making $17 million this season.

So while all the talk around the MLB Trade Deadline centers around the Dodgers’ pitching and all of the injuries they have dealt with, in reality, Michael Conforto might be one of the biggest candidates to be moved.

Just how patient are the Dodgers willing to be?

Will The Los Angeles Dodgers Move Michael Conforto?

On a recent episode of Dodgers Territory, reporter David Vassegh was asked about Conforto and what his leash with the Dodgers would be.

“He has until July 31st, Alanna. To show the Dodgers that he should be the starting left fielder. I know everybody keeps talking about pitching, and pitching at the trade deadline, I believe the Dodgers should be looking for an outfield bat at the trade deadline. They’ve got pitching coming. They got Glasnow back yesterday, Snell’s pitching at Rancho Cucamonga today, they’re going to get him back probably on the first road trip after the All-Star break, so they’re getting pitching back. But they need a little bit better outfield defense, and they need a little bit more offense, and I don’t know who that is, I’ve heard the Red Sox shopped Jarren Duran…Byron Buxton’s on a Twins team that is going nowhere. There’s got to be someone out there who can help the Dodgers offensively and defensively.”

So it sounds like Conforto essentially has 14 games to prove that he should be the Dodgers’ starting left fielder as they push for a World Series.

Right now, he has not done enough to show that.

If the Minnesota Twins do decide to be sellers at the deadline, Buxton would be a very enticing target. He is currently batting .273 with 20 home runs and 53 RBIs, and has a $15 million contract, $2 million less than Conforto.

These are going to be a critical few weeks for Conforto and the Dodgers, who are currently in the midst of a seven-game losing streak.

They take on the San Francisco Giants today at 1:05 PM PT, and Shohei Ohtani is set to take the mound.
