Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani is a rare breed of player. Not only is he a two-way player in terms of pitching and hitting, but he also rarely takes days off. He has only missed two games this season, which came when he was on paternity leave for the birth of his daughter.

According to manager Dave Roberts, he will be taking a rest day, finally, for the finale against the Colorado Rockies on Thursday.

“I talked to him a little bit on the bench today,” manager Dave Roberts said after Tuesday’s game. “He’s going to leave it all out there tomorrow (Wednesday), and he’ll be down on Thursday.”

Dodgers Shohei Ohtani To Get Scheduled Rest Day

After the series with the Rockies, the Dodgers will play a series with the second-place Padres in San Diego, so a fresh Ohtani is very important.

Ohtani is set to make his 10th start of the season this evening (Wednesday), while also hitting from the leadoff position, as he typically does.

While his hitting numbers are down slightly from last season, he is still putting together an unbelievable season. He is batting .284 with 44 (2nd) home runs and 83 RBIs. In the pitching department, he has an ERA of 3.47 with 32 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.11.

Per Roberts, the plan will be for Will Smith to fill in as DH for tomorrow’s finale.
