For the Los Angeles Dodgers, the 2025 season will go down as one where the team suffered more injuries than most teams in recent memory.
Just yesterday, the Dodgers put reliever Michael Kopech on the injured list, ending his regular season, and now we have just received an update on starting catcher Will Smith.
According to Dave Roberts, Smith went in for more scans, which revealed a hairline fracture in his hand. Roberts listed him as ‘Doubtful’ to return for the regular season, and said that it is “up in the air” that he is ready to go for the start of the postseason.

Dodgers Will Turn To Ben Rortvedt
Roberts noted that Ben Rortvedt will get “the lion’s share” of the work behind the plate while Smith is out. Dalton Rushing is available as well, but sounds like he will back up Rortvedt.

Since joining the Dodgers via trade, Rortvedt is batting .294, with a .721 OPS, and a .368 OBP in 13 games. He has been a real bright spot since being acquired.
