The Los Angeles Dodgers may not have made the splash that everyone expected at the MLB Trade Deadline, but that does not mean that they were not active.
After acquiring a few nice pieces, Andrew Friedman decided to deal starting pitcher Dustin May to the Boston Red Sox.

According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Dodgers traded May to the Red Sox just before the deadline. There were many rumors that the Dodgers would make an attempt to bring back starting pitcher Walker Buehler, who is currently with the Red Sox, but he was not part of the deal.
According to Robert Murray of Fansided, the Dodgers received outfield prospect James Tibbs III in the deal. Tibbs III was acquired by the Red Sox from the Giants in the Rafael Devers trade earlier this year.

Los Angeles Dodgers Trade Dustin May To Boston Red Sox

May had an up-and-down season for the Dodgers this year. He was able to secure the starting 5th spot in the rotation after spring training, but inconsistency led to this trade.
With the return of Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell’s return on the horizon, he was squeezed out of the starting rotation and was going to be moved to the bullpen.
Obviously, the Dodgers did not see the long-term or short-term value in this and decided to make a move.

James Tibbs III is Boston’s No. 5 prospect, and he was the San Francisco Giants’ first-round pick just last year.
In the minors this season, he has 323 at-bats, 13 home runs, 39 RBIs, 84 strikeouts, a .232 average, a .358 OBP, and a .760 OPS.
With an expiring contract and a now limited role in the bullpen, this was a very savvy move by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
