Los Angeles Dodgers Share Critical Tommy Edman Injury Update

The Los Angeles Dodgers are managing the workload of utility player Tommy Edman, who was out of the starting lineup for Wednesday’s series finale against the Miami Marlins. This decision, following Edman’s absence from the starting lineup on Monday, is primarily precautionary.

Dodgers insider David Vassegh reported on the SNLA broadcast that Edman tweaked his ankle in the sixth inning of Tuesday’s 15-2 victory. While the team does not believe the injury is severe, the team is prioritizing his recovery by providing him with two consecutive days of rest, encompassing Wednesday’s game and the team’s scheduled off-day on Thursday.

The Dodgers are optimistic that Edman will be ready for Friday’s series opener on the road against the Atlanta Braves.

This strategic rest aims to keep Edman fresh for the upcoming 10-game stretch, allowing him to maintain his strong start to the 2025 season. Edman has been a key contributor for the Dodgers, slashing .252/.295/.523 with eight home runs, 24 RBIs, and an .818 OPS.

Notably, even when not in the starting lineup, Edman has demonstrated his value. In Monday’s game, he entered as a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning and ultimately delivered a walk-off, two-run single in the 10th. The team also aims to keep Kiké Hernández fresh and provide him with more consistent at-bats.

Edman, 29, arrived in Los Angeles via a three-team trade last season involving the Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals. LA acquired Edman, who would later become the 2024 NLCS MVP, and Michael Kopech, a key bullpen arm, while sending infielder Miguel Vargas, shortstop Alexander Albertus, and shortstop Jeral Perez to Chicago.
