Los Angeles Dodgers’ Mookie Betts Reveals Shocking Injury Update

The Los Angeles Dodgers have hit a rough patch, suffering three consecutive losses, the most recent being Tuesday’s defeat at the hands of the Washington Nationals. This recent slump has tempered the enthusiasm that followed their dominant start to the season, which included two consecutive series sweeps. Amidst this team performance, a notable observation for fans has been the apparent weight loss of their superstar outfielder, Mookie Betts.

Recently, Betts shed light on the cause of his weight loss, revealing the significant amount he had dropped. According to a report by Levi Weaver and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Betts was “dealing with a nasty stomach virus that caused him to miss the Dodgers’ first two games in Japan.”

The severity of the illness was underscored by the fact that Betts, who typically plays at a weight of 173-174 pounds, dropped down to 158.2 pounds. The report also noted the extent of his dehydration during the trip to Japan, requiring an IV treatment with two liters of fluids. Fortunately, Betts reported feeling better, and by Friday, his weight had increased to 170 pounds, a positive sign of recovery.

It is certainly encouraging to see Betts regaining weight after what must have been a concerning situation, particularly so close to the beginning of the season. Despite their recent struggles, the Dodgers hold a 9-4 record, a step back from their initial historic pace but still leaving them ample time to regain their early form.

Los Angeles remains a strong favorite to contend for a World Series championship this year, and a healthy and productive Mookie Betts will undoubtedly be a critical component of their success, especially after his pivotal contributions in the 2024 postseason.
