Los Angeles Dodgers Demote New Addition, “Too Careful” At Plate

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Michael Conforto is experiencing a challenging start to the 2025 season. Through the opening month, Conforto is recording a .169/.303/.289 slash line, with two home runs and five RBIs.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts attributes Conforto’s struggles to a lack of decisiveness at the plate. “I think there’s a lot of indecision,” Roberts said recently. “A little too careful. Just kind of not being convicted in his hitting zone and what he wants to do in an at-bat.” Roberts believes that Conforto is being “overly cautious.”

Despite the current slump, Conforto has demonstrated his offensive capabilities in the past. In 2024, playing for the San Francisco Giants, he posted a .237 batting average with 20 home runs, 66 RBIs, and a .759 OPS. His most notable performance came in 2015, when he played a crucial role in the New York Mets’ playoff run, hitting .333 with two home runs in the World Series against the Kansas City Royals.

The Dodgers hope Conforto can recapture that level of performance in 2025. Roberts believes that increased clarity and confidence at the plate will be key to unlocking his potential. “But I think for me it’s just wanting to have, once he gets in there, have clarity and just kind of be free and easy,” Roberts stated. “I think sometimes it gets a little foggy with guys when they’re scuffling a little bit.”

In an effort to help Conforto find his rhythm, the Dodgers have made adjustments to the lineup. For Tuesday night’s game against the Miami Marlins, Conforto was moved to the ninth spot in the batting order. This marks the first time in his career that he has hit from that far back in the lineup.
