Another Dodgers Player Heads To The IL, But Avoids Season-Ending Injury

Last night’s Los Angeles Dodgers game was all about Clayton Kershaw, as it should have been. He became the first Dodgers player in franchise history to join the 3000 strikeout club. GOAT status for Kershaw, and truly a legendary performance.

Unfortunately, that was not the only news that came out of the 5-4, come-from-behind victory over the Chicago White Sox.

Starting third baseman Max Muncy went down during the contest with a gruesome-looking injury after he was struck in the knee by the helmet of a sliding White Sox player.

At the moment, it looked like Muncy had blown his knee out and his season would be over. It would be a crushing blow to the Dodgers, who have already dealt with significant injuries all season long.

Luckily, Dave Roberts gave a much more encouraging update today.

In speaking with reporters today, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts gave an update on Muncy. He will be going on the IL, and according to Muncy, will be out approximately 6 weeks with a deep bone bruise.

6 weeks is a long time, but that is about as good news as the Dodgers and Muncy could have received. He will be back with plenty of time to get back into a rhythm before the playoffs begin.

Roberts also noted that Tommy Edman will likely slide over the 3rd base so they can let Hyeseong Kim get all the reps at 2nd base.

This could certainly open up the trade rumor mill, again, surrounding St. Louis Cardinals 3rd baseman Nolan Arenado, but that is for another day.

For now, Dodgers fans can breathe a sigh of relief that Max Muncy’s injury was not more serious. The Boys in Blue host the White Sox in their series finale tonight at 7:10 PM PT.
