Los Angeles Dodgers Reveal Troubling Teoscar Hernandez Update

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ weekend series against the Houston Astros has taken a difficult turn — not just in the win column, but on the injury front as well. After dropping the first two games, manager Dave Roberts confirmed Sunday that outfielder Teoscar Hernández and utility man Tommy Edman would both miss the series finale due to injuries sustained Saturday night.

Teoscar Hernández Undergoing Tests for Foot Injury

Hernández fouled a pitch off his left foot during Saturday’s loss, remaining in the game but finishing 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. Despite playing all nine innings, he was held out Sunday and is undergoing scans to determine the severity of the injury.

“He’s a little banged up with the foot, the foul ball,” Roberts explained. “That’s actually the reason why he’s not in there today. We’ll see how his foot feels. If we get some testing, that might kind of paint a better picture.”

The 2024 Silver Slugger winner has already spent time on the injured list this season due to a groin strain. He opted out of defending his Home Run Derby title this year, citing concerns about his health. Through the first half of 2025, Hernández has hit .257 with 14 home runs, 56 RBI, and a .758 OPS — a dip from last year’s career-best 4.3 WAR campaign, but still a steady presence in the Dodgers’ lineup.

Edman, who was hit by a pitch on his right pinky toe Saturday, is also undergoing tests. Like Hernández, he played the entire game but woke up feeling worse.

“Tommy’s got a toe thing,” Roberts said. “He got hit on the toe yesterday, so he’s a little hobbly today too. It’s kind of a perfect storm.”

Edman previously missed time with a right ankle sprain earlier this season and was set to take on more infield duties with Max Muncy sidelined. He’s currently batting .239 with 10 homers and 38 RBI.

Los Angeles Dodgers Depth Will Be Tested

With both players out, the Dodgers will turn to young prospects Hyeseong Kim, Dalton Rushing, and Esteury Ruiz in Sunday’s lineup. If either veteran requires an IL stint, the club could look to Triple-A or the trade market to reinforce their roster.

The Dodgers remain tied for the best record in baseball, but these injury setbacks arrive at a critical stretch before the All-Star break.
