Los Angeles Dodgers Share New Blake Snell ‘Medical Intervention’ Update

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts informed reporters prior to Tuesday’s game against the Washington Nationals that left-handed pitcher Blake Snell will be shut down from throwing for at least the next week. This decision comes after Snell was placed on the injured list on Sunday due to inflammation in his left shoulder.

According to Sonja Chen of MLB.com, the current plan is for Snell to refrain from throwing until at least Monday, with no immediate medical intervention scheduled. The Dodgers’ primary course of action at this stage is to allow the two-time Cy Young Award winner to rest and recover. Roberts characterized this approach as the “best-case scenario” for Snell’s recovery.

On Tuesday morning, it was reported that Snell would undergo an injection. At this time, it is unclear if this latest statement includes that.

Snell himself acknowledged that he had been dealing with the shoulder soreness for approximately three weeks, dating back to the team’s series in Philadelphia. “I’ve been feeling it for like three weeks,” Snell explained on Monday. “I thought I could pitch through it when I got to Philly. Played long toss, catch, tried to throw – I just couldn’t. This sucks. I was hoping I could just get past it and pitch, and it would go away. It’s hurting, so I’ll get healthy and get back out there.”

While Snell is expected to miss at least a couple of weeks, he remains hopeful that his absence will not be prolonged. In the interim, left-handed pitcher Justin Wrobleski has been tapped to start in his place on Tuesday and could potentially remain in the Dodgers’ rotation for the duration of Snell’s time on the injured list.

Snell joined the Dodgers this offseason, signing a significant five-year, $182 million contract. In his two starts for Los Angeles this year, he has pitched nine innings, allowing seven runs (only two of which were earned) on ten hits, while also issuing eight walks and striking out four batters. The team will be closely monitoring his recovery progress with the hope of a swift return to their pitching staff.
