Analyst Suggests Big Trade To Solve Los Angeles Dodgers Growing Injury Concerns

The Los Angeles Dodgers, who entered the season with what was considered one of baseball’s deepest starting pitching rotations, are now facing a significant challenge due to a series of injuries.

A substantial portion of LA’s premier pitching talent is currently sidelined. Blake Snell, Clayton Kershaw, Tony Gonsolin, and Shohei Ohtani are among the key pitchers presently unavailable. Adding to these woes, right-hander Tyler Glasnow was recently placed on the injured list with a shoulder injury.

This confluence of injuries has dramatically altered the Dodgers’ pitching landscape. What was once a rotation brimming with depth has been significantly depleted. Consequently, the team may now be compelled to explore external options, potentially pursuing a high-impact trade for a rental starting pitcher to bolster their staff as the season progresses.

Zach Pressnell of Newsweek suggests hatching a deal with the Cincinnati Reds for righty Nick Martinez.

“Martinez is on a one-year deal worth $21 million. He’s a very consistent righty with solid command and a fiery attitude,” Pressnell writes. “The Dodgers could ship away one of their top outfield prospects, like James Outman or Dalton Rushing, to secure Martinez. This addition would benefit the Dodgers quite a bit because once their rotation is healthy, Martinez could slide into the bullpen. He’s spent time in the bullpen with the Reds and was quite successful. Martinez would hand manager Dave Roberts a pitcher who will consistently give the Dodgers a chance to win. Their pitching staff doesn’t always need to be perfect. Keeping the team in the game is more than enough with their high-powered offense.”

Manager Dave Roberts has maintained a measured view of the pitching injuries, focusing on having a full slate by the time the playoffs roll around. If they are unable to right the ship, the playoffs may slip through their grasp.
