NEW Los Angeles Dodgers Star Emerging In Nick Of Time While Team Limps Back To Health

The Los Angeles Dodgers are unabashedly chasing another World Series title, but the current battle they are navigating is a season riddled with injuries and inconsistency. But amid the turbulence, one name continues to rise: 24-year-old center fielder Andy Pages.

After debuting as a league-average hitter in 2024 (.248/.305/.407, 100 wRC+), Pages has taken a notable step forward this season, slashing .280/.333/.494 with nine home runs over 177 plate appearances. While his offensive metrics are promising, it’s his glove that’s turning heads around the league. Pages leads all Major League outfielders with 10 defensive runs saved, per Sports Info Solutions via Clutch points, putting him on pace to challenge Kevin Kiermaier’s single-season record of 42 set in 2015.

“He’s an everyday player,” manager Dave Roberts said, reaffirming that Pages’ playing time won’t be affected by the recent return of Teoscar Hernández. “He’ll get the occasional off day, but Andy’s earned his role.”

Pages’ defensive emergence has been critical, especially following the team’s decision to shift Mookie Betts to shortstop. While Tommy Edman was the hero of last year’s postseason run, Pages has been the constant in an outfield still regaining its shape. And he’s not just flashing leather—he’s holding his own offensively despite some underlying concerns.

His plate discipline remains a work in progress. Pages strikes out in 23.2% of his trips and walks just 5.6% of the time, both below league average. He’s swinging at nearly 54% of pitches—one of the highest rates in MLB—and chasing more than he did as a rookie. Still, improved contact on strikes (up to 88.2%) and elite defense make him a cornerstone.

On a roster filled with stars like Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, and Betts, Pages is carving out a name of his own—quietly but decisively.
