The Los Angeles Dodgers‘ pitching staff has been decimated by injuries, as they currently have 14 pitchers on the injured list. Couple that with closer Tanner Scott’s recent struggles, and the Dodgers are in serious need of bullpen arms.
They addressed that on Thursday by adding relief pitcher Alexis Diáz.

Los Angeles Dodgers Add Reds Closer Alexis Diáz

Diáz began his career in the majors in 2022 and quickly became one of the top closers in all of baseball. He made the All-Star team in 2023 and posted an impressive 3.07 ERA with 37 saves and only 3 blown saves all season (Tanner Scott currently has 4 blown saves this year).
However, this season has not gone well for Diáz. He was sent down to Triple-A after posting a 12.00 ERA in just 6 appearances. In Triple-A, he has a 4.61 ERA in 14 games.

He is expected to remain in the minors for the time being and join Oklahoma City.
This is a low-risk, high-reward acquisition for the Dodgers. If he can get back to even comparable 2023 form, he will be a huge addition to the bullpen, especially with all of the lingering injuries.
Still just 28, the 6’2, 224-pound righty out of Puerto Rico could end up being a good stopgap while Evan Phillips continues to nurse his injury. Manager Dave Roberts spoke recently that he is growing concerned about Phillips and his progression, and he was recently moved to the 60-day IL.
Diáz could end up pitching in Phillips’ spot and allow him all the time he needs to fully heal.
