Dodgers’ Hyeseong Kim’s Insane Statline On Saturday Was The First Ever In The Modern Era

The Los Angeles Dodgers routed the New York Yankees on Saturday Night, 18-2, and Hyeseong Kim was a major reason why.

After starting this season in Triple-A, he was called up recently and has played sparingly since. With Mookie Betts on the mend, nursing a stubbed toe, Kim was given the opportunity to start at shortstop yesterday, and he did not disappoint.

When the Dodgers signed Kim from the Korean league, they knew they were getting a fantastic fielder. The only question was if his bat would transfer over to the MLB.

During Spring Training, it did not, and he struggled a bit at the plate, hence his start in Triple-A. But on Saturday, Kim put on display what he is capable of.

  • 4 Hits
  • 1 Home Run
  • An Unassisted Double Play
  • An Outfield Assist

According to OptaSTATS, this statline has NEVER been done in a single game in the modern era.

Since being called up, Kim is batting .422, with 2 home runs, and 7 RBIs. He has an OPS of 1.058. It is a very small sample size, but it looks as if Kim is becoming the player that the Dodgers hoped he would be when they signed him.

If that is the case, look out, the kid is special, and the Dodgers have yet another weapon.
