Dodgers Ace Urges Blockbuster Trade For ‘Most Unbelievable’ Player

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ offseason aggression may not be finished.

After the surprise signing of All-Star closer Edwin Díaz, speculation has intensified around whether the Dodgers could pursue one more seismic move — a blockbuster trade for Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, widely regarded as one of the best pitchers in baseball.

Those rumors gained real momentum when Dodgers right-hander Tyler Glasnow openly endorsed the idea, calling Skubal “one of the most unbelievable pitchers” he has ever seen.

Tyler Glasnow: “He’d Be a Perfect Fit”

Appearing on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM, Glasnow didn’t hide his enthusiasm for the possibility of sharing a rotation with the Tigers’ left-hander.

“I think it would be sick if we went out and got him,” Glasnow said. “He’s probably one of the most unbelievable pitchers I’ve ever seen. And I’ve just heard such good things about him too. The Dodgers are really big on signing guys who have plus personalities and are good in the clubhouse. He’d be a perfect fit. Just to pitch along with him in the rotation would be kind of a dream, so I hope we can get that done.”

Skubal, a back-to-back American League Cy Young Award winner, is under team control through the 2026 season. With extension talks reportedly going nowhere, Detroit is believed to be exploring the market to maximize his value.

Why Skubal Is Generating So Much Buzz

Over the past two seasons, Skubal has positioned himself as arguably the most dominant starter in the sport. He has logged 190-plus innings each year, topped 220 strikeouts in both seasons, and posted sub-2.50 ERAs during that stretch.

In 2025 alone, Skubal led the American League with a 2.21 ERA while striking out 241 batters across 195.1 innings. He ranks near the top of MLB in strikeout-to-walk percentage and expected ERA, combining power, durability, and command in a way few pitchers can.

That profile explains why ESPN’s Jorge Castillo reported from the Winter Meetings that a Tigers trade involving Skubal was becoming “likely.”

The Dodgers’ Prospect Capital — and the Cost

Any deal for Skubal would come with a massive price tag. Detroit is believed to be intrigued by the Dodgers’ deep farm system, with names such as Josue De Paula, Zyhir Hope, Eduardo Quintero, Alex Freeland, and Mike Sirota floated in speculative packages.

Even if the two sides align on talent, one major hurdle remains: Skubal’s willingness to sign a long-term extension. Without that assurance, the Tigers would be surrendering a franchise ace — and the Dodgers would be paying an enormous prospect cost for potentially just two seasons.

Glasnow Addressed His Own Trade Rumors

Ironically, Glasnow himself surfaced in trade speculation tied to Skubal. ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez reported that Glasnow’s name had “come up in conversations” and that the Dodgers “would not be opposed to moving him.”

Glasnow, however, says the front office quickly put those fears to rest.

“I’ve also seen some rumors where I would get traded for him, so I didn’t know what to believe,” Glasnow said. “I’ve talked to [Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman] and our front office and they’re like, ‘No, you’re not going anywhere.’ So they told me I’m not going to get traded and I trust them.”

That reassurance only fueled Glasnow’s excitement about the possibility of adding Skubal without subtracting from the current rotation.

“I obviously have seen the Skubal stuff, and I think that seems to be relatively real,” he added. “Just to pitch along with him in the rotation would be a dream.”

What a Skubal Deal Would Mean for the Dodgers

If the Dodgers were somehow able to land Skubal while keeping Glasnow, the rotation would border on unprecedented.

A group featuring Skubal, Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Glasnow, and Shohei Ohtani would instantly become the most intimidating starting staff in baseball — and likely make Los Angeles overwhelming favorites to chase a World Series three-peat in 2026.

The cost would be steep. The risk would be real. But the upside is exactly the type of swing championship organizations are willing to take.

As Glasnow put it plainly: the fit, the talent, and the opportunity are all there. Now, it’s up to the Dodgers’ front office to decide whether pushing all their chips in is worth it — one more time.
