Rotation Injury Strands Dodgers, No Starter Named For Critical Rockies Clash

The Los Angeles Dodgers return home Monday night to open a divisional series against the Colorado Rockies, but the pitching plan remains unsettled. For now, no starter has been announced for the opener at Dodger Stadium.

Emmet Sheehan is lined up for Tuesday, with Blake Snell set for Wednesday. That leaves Monday in limbo — and manager Dave Roberts acknowledged the uncertainty stems from Tyler Glasnow, who was scratched from his scheduled outing Friday.

Glasnow’s absence was initially concerning, but Roberts explained to Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register that “nothing came of it” after the right-hander’s back was examined. Glasnow threw over the weekend, yet the club remains cautious. “My expectation is it’ll be this next series when we get home. I’m just not sure if it’s tomorrow or Tuesday or what,” Roberts said. “He played catch yesterday, felt good. He’s gonna throw again today. So it could be tomorrow, it could be Tuesday, it could be Wednesday.”

The Dodgers could accelerate Sheehan or Snell’s start if Glasnow needs more time, though they’d prefer to get the 6-foot-8 starter back into rhythm. Glasnow has been one of the team’s most consistent arms this season, with a 3.77 ERA over 68.2 innings and 81 strikeouts. He’s allowed more than three runs just twice all year, underscoring how effective he’s been when available.

Availability, however, has long been Glasnow’s challenge. A history of shoulder, elbow, and back issues has limited his durability, including a lengthy absence earlier this season and the lost postseason a year ago. That context makes the Dodgers’ cautious approach clear — they need him at full strength for October.

If healthy, Glasnow projects as a vital piece of the postseason rotation behind Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Snell, alongside Clayton Kershaw and potentially Shohei Ohtani in some role. But for now, the immediate question lingers: will Glasnow be ready to take the ball Monday night, or will Los Angeles buy him another day?
