Dodgers Skipper Now Has 2 Words For Padres After Sweeping Rivals

After a dominant three-game sweep of the San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts offered two very telling words for their longtime rivals: “very satisfying.”

The defending champions had stumbled through a rough stretch, losing games they were expected to win and watching San Diego take control at the top of the NL West. But over the weekend, Los Angeles regained its form, reclaiming the division lead and sending a clear message to the Padres.

“Very satisfying, considering where we were four days ago,” Roberts said. “Just the way we ramped up the focus, the intensity and obviously winning three ballgames here—tight ballgames, well-played games—to come out of it with three wins is huge.”

The sweep was powered by a combination of strong pitching, resilient bullpen work, and timely hitting. The Dodgers’ starting rotation delivered 17 strong innings while allowing just three runs, helping stabilize a unit that had been inconsistent throughout the season. Meanwhile, the bullpen, though thin, closed out all three games, proving capable under pressure.

Offensively, Mookie Betts provided the signature moment, hitting a go-ahead home run in Sunday’s 5-4 win. “Every at-bat is the same at this point—just trying to do something productive,” Betts said. “It definitely helps to not carry burdens from previous at-bats.” Freddie Freeman and Andy Pages also contributed key runs, with Pages adding a solo homer in the first inning of the opener.

Reliever Alex Vesia capped the sweep by shutting down the Padres in the ninth inning Sunday, underscoring the team’s resilience. “We still have that. That doesn’t just go away,” Vesia said. “Every single one of us, we’re leaning on each other. And we know as a group how good we are. The last three games, it’s shown, and that’s from one guy picking up the next. We kind of call it passing the torch. You get kicked down in this game from time to time, right? We put our heads down and keep going.”

With the sweep, Los Angeles also clinched the season series against San Diego, a crucial morale boost as the postseason approaches. The Dodgers now turn their attention to a four-game series against the Colorado Rockies, hoping to carry their intensity forward.

After a rough stretch, the defending champions have reminded the league that they remain a force in the NL West—and Roberts’ two words for the Padres capture exactly how the team feels: very satisfying.
