Starting pitcher Blake Snell pitched an absolute gem last night for the Los Angeles Dodgers, but it was not enough as he was unable to garner run support, and the Padres walked away victorious 2-1.
While Snell would have loved to leave the stadium with a win, he had bigger priorities. His wife was expected to go into labor, and Snell left the stadium in a hurry to be with her.
He was placed on the paternity list, which allows for a player to be away from the team for 3 days, and allows the team to make a corresponding move to the 40-man roster.
Dodgers Place Blake Snell On Paternity List, Activate Reliever Kirby Yates
In a corresponding move, the Dodgers have activated reliever Kirby Yates to the active roster.
The Dodgers have activated RHP Kirby Yates from the injured list and placed LHP Blake Snell on the paternity list.

This is now back-to-back days where the Dodgers have gotten major additions to their bullpen, activating closer Tanner Scott yesterday, and now Yates today. Yates has been on the IL list since late July with lower back pain. It is his second stint on the IL this year.
Similar to Scott, Yates has had a very up-and-down season.
Last season with the Texas Rangers, Yates had an impressive 1.17 ERA over 61.2 innings pitched and 33 saves. This is what sparked so much excitement when the Dodgers were able to sign him during the offseason.

So far this season, when healthy, Yates has a 4.31 ERA over 31.1 innings pitched and 13 holds.
The Dodgers hope that he can get closer to last season’s form as the playoffs approach. More importantly, the Dodgers need to handle their business in this series against the Padres. They are currently tied for the division lead with two games to go in the series.
First pitch tonight is set for 5:40 PM PT, and Tyler Glasnow will be the starting pitcher on the mound.
