When the Los Angeles Rams hired Sean McVay back in 2017, everything changed, not just for the Rams, but for the entire NFL.
Not only was he the youngest head coach in NFL history, but he, along with GM Les Snead created a new way of running an organization.
Not playing starters in the preseason, skipping the combine in person and conducting interviews virtually, having a “Draft House” every year, and not to mention 11 personnel and all of the on-the-field intricacies, are just a few things that Sean McVay has done to transform the way to operate and coach a football team.
The other big one: winning. And a lot of it.
The proof is in the pudding for those who sleep on the Rams or McVay. Since McVay was hired in 2017, the only coach and organization to have more playoff wins is Andy Reid and the Chiefs.
Sean McVay Is One Of The Best Coaches In NFL History
Since becoming a head coach, Sean McVay and the Rams have an 8-4 Playoff Record, with two Super Bowl appearances and one Super Bowl win.
For more context, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin also has eight wins, to 11 losses, and two Super Bowl appearances, but over 18 years versus McVay’s eight years.
The more remarkable thing is that McVay has done this with not only huge roster turnover year in and year out but seemingly every offseason he loses coaches on his staff to promotions around the league.
He is already on his 4th defensive coordinator and 5th offensive coordinator, not to mention the countless position coaches that have been promoted to coordinator jobs around the league.

Coaches like Sean McVay do not grow on trees. Not only is he a special play-caller and in-game manager, but he truly is a culture builder and a leader who is beloved by his team. He brings an energy to the building every day that is contagious, and his team plays like it.
In back-to-back seasons, the Rams have gone into the bye looking like a dead football team (3-6 in 2023, 1-4 in 2024). Not only did the team end up making the playoffs both seasons, but this season, after beating the Vikings in the divisional round, has a chance to go on a run.
Sean McVay is one of one. Just enjoy the ride Rams fans.
