The dust is still settling on the Los Angeles Rams season but with that heartbreaking loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, it is officially the offseason. And with that will come a multitude of tough choices, starting with freeing up as much cap needed to build and rebuild this team into something, hopefully, better equipped to make the big game.
Bleacher Report recently picked three candidates who could be at the receiving end of the salary cap guillotine.
Los Angeles Rams Cut Candidates
- 1. TE Tyler Higbee – $9.6 million
- 2. CB Darious Williams – $9.1 million
- 3. WR Cooper Kupp – $29.8 million
Case for Cutting Tyler Higbee

Tyler Higbee signed a two-year contract extension during the 2023 season, but the Los Angeles Rams may be considering a premature end to this agreement.
Despite his contributions this season, including eight receptions for 66 yards and two touchdowns, the team may be evaluating whether to retain Higbee at his current salary. Releasing Higbee would result in a $6.2 million dead-cap hit, but the potential cost savings could be deemed worthwhile, particularly considering his recent injury history.
Higbee suffered a significant knee injury in the playoffs, missing all but three games of the 2024 season. Furthermore, with the team set to pay tight end Colby Parkinson $9.8 million next season, releasing Higbee could create valuable cap space ($3.4 million) and potentially streamline their salary structure at the position.

Case for Cutting Darious Williams
Darious Williams, who rejoined the Los Angeles Rams last offseason following a two-year stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars, appears to be experiencing a decline in performance.
This season, Williams surrendered a career-high passer rating of 101.7 when targeted, raising concerns about his continued effectiveness at the highest level.
Given the Rams’ history of success in drafting and developing young defensive backs, they may explore the possibility of replacing Williams with a younger, more cost-effective option. Releasing Williams would create $3.8 million in cap space, providing the team with additional flexibility in roster construction.
Case For Cutting Cooper Kupp

The decision regarding Cooper Kupp’s future with the Rams presents a complex challenge. While Kupp has been a cornerstone of the franchise, his recent performance and injury history warrant careful consideration.
At 32 years old, Kupp has not achieved a 1,000-yard receiving season since 2021 and has been limited to 12 or fewer games in each of the last three seasons.
Releasing Kupp prior to March 16th would generate a significant cap savings of $7.5 million. Delaying this decision would reduce the savings to $5 million, suggesting that the Rams will either retain Kupp or explore the possibility of renegotiating his contract to a more manageable salary.
