In the latest edition of the Los Angeles Rams offensive line musical chairs, Alaric Jackson returns to the starting lineup after serving a two-game suspension. Starting center (or left guard) Jonah Jackson and starting left guard (or center) Steve Avila have landed on the injured reserve. Rookie 6th rounder moves in as the snapper and Rams first overall pick in the 2022 draft, Logan Bruss will make his very first start of his career.
OG Bruss To Make First Career Start For Rams
Bruss started off his Rams career with a slew of questions as to why they selected an offensive lineman. This was a roster that had big questions in the secondary and along the defensive line. The Rams lost Darious Williams and Vonn Miller from their championship offense, as well as Odell Beckham and Robert Woods from the offense. Not to mention their complete inability to run the ball with Cam Akers.
Was an offensive lineman the top priority for that team? Apparently.
Bruss’s playing career got off to an even worse start once training camp came. He tore his ACL and MCL in a preseason game, ending his season. However, the fact that he was playing in the preseason means, in Sean McVay’s parlance, that Bruss had not cracked the top slot of the depth chart.
The Rams drafted Steve Avila with their first pick in 2023 and later added Kevin Dotson. Those two were named starters ahead of Bruss. In 2023, Bruss was waived by the Rams and re-signed to the practice squad.
Now in 2024, due to injury, Bruss will get his first shot to start an NFL game in his short career. Bruss played the second most snaps among LA’s offensive linemen and showed improvement in his play. He allowed just one quarterback pressure over 121 snaps playing right guard. He also earned the line’s third-best run-blocking grade from PFF.
That said, Bruss will now face a stiffer level of competition, not just going against starting NFL pass rushers, but the San Francisco 49ers’ top 10 pass rush percentage.
