Cooper Kupp didn’t make it to halftime in the Los Angeles Rams‘ Week 2 41-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals before injuring his ankle. The All-Pro receiver limped off the field and never returned as the blowout continued.
After the game, Rams coach Sean McVay stated that Kupp will be out for an “extended period of time” and admitted his top receiver was a candidate for injured reserve. It was a notable admission, considering going on injured reserve would cost Kupp to miss at least four games, if not more. But now the latest update indicates Kupp could return quicker than anyone anticipated.

Surprisingly, Cooper Kupp avoids injured reserve
While it was previously believed that Cooper Kupp would miss at least four games, the latest update from the Los Angeles Rams is more optimistic.
On Wednesday, the team placed offensive lineman Jonah Jackson and safety John Johnson III on injured reserve. That makes sense, since both are expected to miss an extended amount of time.
But the more notable takeaway was the fact that the Rams DID NOT place Kupp on IR too. This is a clear indication that the Rams believe their Super Bowl-winning receiver will be able to return to the lineup at some point in the next four weeks.

There currently are no plans to place WR Cooper Kupp on injured reserve.
Of course, the Rams could later determine that Kupp does need to go on injured reserve, at which point he’d still be forced to miss four games. But until we hear otherwise, the assumption is Kupp could return from his latest ankle injury sooner than even Coach McVay initially thought.
