JJ Redick Takes Playful Jab At Former Colleagues

Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick’s big personality has always been on full display. We’ve seen it in all three phases of his basketball career as a player, analyst, and coach. Last night’s Lakers game was no exception.

When JJ Redick did his standard halftime interview, Los Angeles led 68-60 against the San Antonio Spurs in Group Play of the NBA Cup. What started off as a standard check-in on his thoughts on the team turned into an opportunity for Redick to show off some sarcasm on national television towards Ryan Ruocco and Richard Jefferson.

“I just want to be clear on this guys,” Redick said. “There’s nothing I’d rather be doing less than talking to the two of you. I want everybody to know, I want to be very clear on this. I do not like these two gentlemen.”

Ruocco and Jefferson, both former co-workers of Redick during his time at ESPN, looked at him and the camera in humourous disbelief.

There was fun on both sides. During the game, Ruocco asked Jefferson if he had fully adjusted to seeing Redick in the coaching position.

“Yes,” Jefferson said. “Because the last few years of his career he was sitting on the bench anyway.” Brutal.

The Lakers would go on to take care of business against San Antonio 120-115. Anthony Davis shined with 40 points and 12 rebounds while LeBron James racked up his fourth consecutive triple-double with 15 points, 16 rebounds, and 12 assists.

The Lakers bump up to 8-4 and take on the New Orleans Pelicans tonight at 8 p.m. ET.
