Even though the move was highly scrutinized, the Los Angeles Lakers selected Bronny James, LeBron James’ son, with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. After the pick, much was made about what type of role the 20-year-old shooting guard would have for a Lakers team hoping to capitalize on the oldest player in the NBA‘s dwindling championship window.
Bronny is expected to spend a large portion of his first season playing with Los Angeles’ South Bay Lakers, the team’s G-League affiliate. But on Tuesday night, the Lakers had other ideas, knowing they could do something never done in the NBA.

LeBron James and Bronny James become first father-son duo to play together in NBA
The Los Angeles Lakers’ schedule tipped off on Sunday night at crypto.com Arena, which gave Bronny James a chance to make his official NBA season debut, taking on the Minnesota Timberwolves.
He checked into the game with 4:00 seconds remaining in the second quarter, and in doing so, he made immediate history.
Since his dad was still in the game, Bronny and LeBron became the first father-son duo ever to share the court in an NBA game.
Later, the TNT broadcast showed a clip of LeBron giving his eldest son a piece of advice, moments before making his debut. It was an incredible moment that could be replayed thousands of times throughout Bronny’s career.
Also in attendance for this historic event was another iconic father-son duo who made history in MLB by doing the same thing: Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr.
Not a bad way to spend your first day in the NBA, even if his morning got off to a bit of a messy start, thanks to LeBron’s prank on Bronny.
