Following his instrumental role in the Los Angeles Dodgers‘ 2024 World Series championship, Freddie Freeman is currently recovering from offseason ankle surgery. The 2024 World Series MVP underwent surgery in early December to address a bone bruise and sprain sustained during the postseason.
While the Dodgers initially suggested that Freeman would be able to “participate in baseball activities” during Spring Training, a more precise timeline for his return to game action has yet to be determined, as noted by Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.
Los Angeles Dodgers 1st Baseman, Freddie Freeman Addresses Injury Concerns

Addressing his current recovery status at Dodgers FanFest, Freeman provided a cautiously optimistic update. While acknowledging that he has yet to begin running, Freeman expressed confidence in his ability to be ready for the start of the regular season, which commences with a series in Tokyo on March 18th. However, with the season just six weeks away, the possibility of unforeseen setbacks in his recovery remains a consideration. Given the proximity of Spring Training, it is unsurprising that Freeman has indicated he will not be ready for the initial games of Cactus League play.

Given the limited timeframe before the season opener, the Dodgers are likely to exercise caution in his recovery to ensure he enters the season at full strength.
Freeman’s .282/.378/.476 slash line in 147 games last season, while a slight step down from his back-to-back top-4 MVP finishes in 2022 and 2023, solidified his status as one of the premier first basemen in the sport. He is poised to once again anchor the Dodgers’ formidable lineup alongside fellow former MVPs Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani. The Dodgers’ outfield now features Michael Conforto in place of Jason Heyward, while Hyeseong Kim has taken over at second base from Gavin Lux.
