Juan Soto’s free agency saga continues to dominate Major League Baseball headlines and Los Angeles Dodgers fans are hanging on every update. His agent, Scott Boras, recently revealed that Soto has begun narrowing down his list of potential suitors. While the list has not been made public, the Dodgers aren’t the most likely candidates for the superstar.
Where Do The Los Angeles Dodgers Stand with Juan Soto After Big Announcement?
The New York Mets, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Blue Jays, and Dodgers are among the teams heavily linked to Soto. But according to Vegas odds the Mets, Yankees, and Red Sox are leading the pack, coming in at a distant +850. The Mets have the best odds with +100, followed by the Yankees (+150) and Red Sox (+200), and the ever popular, “any other team” trails the Dodgers with a +900, which matches the Blue Jays odds.
However, the Dodgers’ front office is known for making bold moves, so it’s impossible to completely rule them out of the bidding.
Soto had a stellar 2024 season, posing a .288 batting average, a .419 on-base percentage, and a .569 slugging percentage with a career-high 41 home runs and 109 RBIs. His performance earned him his fourth All-Star selection and a third-place finish in the American League MVP voting, trailing only Aaron Judge and Bobby Witt Jr.
While a quick signing isn’t imminent, the elimination process suggests a deal could be reached before the MLB Winter Meetings, which take place next week in Dallas. With expectations of a contract exceeding $600 million, Soto is poised to become one of the highest-paid players in baseball history.
The Dodgers may continue their offseason spending spree which has included Blake Snell and Yoshinobu Yamamoto and perhaps young Japanese ace Roki Sasaki, but the outfield has become a bigger need with Teoscar Hernandez and Kike Hernandez hitting free agency. Soto, of course, would also go a long way from an offensive perspective as well.
