Chargers Share Latest Rashawn Slater Injury Update

The Los Angeles Chargers‘ victory over the Las Vegas Raiders in the season finale was overshadowed by the injury to star offensive tackle Rashawn Slater. Slater was unexpectedly ruled out of the game due to knee discomfort experienced during pregame warmups.

In his post-game press conference, head coach Jim Harbaugh revealed that Slater would undergo an MRI to assess the extent of his knee injury. This news comes as a significant concern, as Slater is a cornerstone of their offensive line and will face the Houston Texans this Saturday in the NFL’s Wild Card playoff round.

On Tuesday, Harbaugh shared that Slater would participate in the day’s practice. However, he did not share specifics about Slater’s game status or the exact results of the MRI. Harbaugh is often cagey when reporting on injury details.

Houston boasts two of the top ten pass rushers in ESPN’s pass rush win rate. The new addition, Danielle Hunter leads all pass rushers with a PRWR of 26 percent, and sophomore Will Anderson comes in at seventh place with 22 percent.

In Week 18, with Slater out, the Chargers moved Joe Alt to Slater’s left tackle position. Alt has played right tackle all season but played on the left side while at Notre Dame.

Starting right guard, Trey Pipkins was also hurt during the game, but no update was given on his status. Pipkins did return to the sidelines after exiting the game with his injury.

The team’s official injury report will be released later today, after practice.
