After not practicing for most of the week, Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert was questionable coming into this matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers. After testing out his ankle in pre-game warmups, he, and the medical staff, decided that he was good to go.
In a 10-10 game, late in the 3rd quarter, Herbert aggravated that ankle injury and took himself out of the game.
Justin Herbert Leaves Game In 3rd Quarter
Newly signed QB Taylor Heinicke has replaced Herbert as the quarterback.
Heinicke was the 3rd reserve QB in the last two weeks, while Easton Stick was the active backup. It’s interesting to see that apparently Heinicke has jumped Stick for the backup spot.
Herbert is about as tough as they come, but he is in the medical tent getting that ankle looked at. At this point, the team has announced that he is questionable to return.
We will update this story as it becomes available.
**Update
Since the game ended, and the Chargers fell to the Steelers 20-10, Justin Herbert was seen in a walking boot leaving the stadium.
Herbert said that he got additional X-rays done after the game and is waiting on the results. The injury seems to be a “continuation” of his high ankle sprain.
