USC Trojans Player Named To Shortlist For 2025 Heisman Trophy

It’s probably way too early to start thinking about the 2025 Heisman Trophy, but the USC Trojans should always have a player in contention.

Less than a few days after Colorado do-it-all phenom Travis Hunter secured the historic trophy, everyone begins to turn their sights to the 2025 contenders.

The Big Ten Huddle Podcast put out a list of the Top 5 Big Ten Heisman Contenders and it included USC Trojans QB Jayden Maiava.

The full list of contenders is as follows:

  • WR Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State
  • QB Dylan Raiola, Nebraska
  • QB Dante Moore, Oregon
  • QB Jayden Maiava, USC
  • QB Drew Allar, Penn State

After earning the starting job late in the season, Maiava went 2-1 and finished the year with 906 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions.

It was very easy to see the talent and ceiling of Maiava as soon as he took over the starting role. His athleticism at 6’4, 220 pounds is one of the best in the country, and his arm talent is mesmerizing.

However, he is still very raw as a quarterback, and while his aggression is a trait that Coach Lincoln Riley spoke highly of, it cost the Trojans a few times, specifically in the form of 2 Pick-Sixes against Notre Dame in the finale.

Last week, Maiava told reporters that he would be back at USC next season, stating, “This is the place to be,” signaling that he will be the starter heading into the new year.

5-Star incoming freshman Husan Longstreet will join him in the room, and Riley will certainly add a QB in the Transfer Portal to add depth to the room.

But, for now, Jayden Maiava is the lead man in Los Angeles. Will he seize the moment, lead the Trojans back to relevance, and secure a 9th Heisman Trophy in program history? He certainly has the talent to do so.
