Add into the mix Chiefs wideout Tyreek Hill also known as “Cheetah” as another and there you have it. One big three-headed Chiefs scoring machine. Hill’s most significant purpose playing football is simple, to make big plays at every opportunity to help his team win football games.
The Long Journey To The NFL
Hill is a native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and faced a lot of adversity while in college. He overcame many different setbacks. Hill a former Coffee High school standout enjoyed both a successful football and track career. He set records on the track, which made him a standout running back and receiver in football.
He once ran a 10.28 at the 100m relays in the USATF Junior Championships, in 2012. The chiseled 5-foot-9, 170-pounder took the 36th Golden South Classic by force when he won the 200-meter dash in a blistering 20.14 seconds in 2012. He also tied for the 2012 national-best when he blazed the 100-yard dash in 10.19 seconds during the trials.
Hill’s exceptional athletic ability gained attention from Florida State, and LSU who recruited him to play football and run track.
Navigating College Athletics
Garden City Community College in Kansas was the first stop for Hill because he needed to improve his grades to enter a Division I athletic program. He arrived on campus in 2013 and rushed for 659 yards and five touchdowns along with 67 receptions for 532 receiving yards as a running back.
Hill chose to move on to Oklahoma State University in 2014 and made an immediate impact on the Cowboys offense. Hill rushed for 534 yards on 102 attempts with one touchdown.
He gained another 234 yards receiving on 31 catches. His return stats were equally impressive with 27 punt returns for 256 yards and 30 kickoff returns for 740 yards.
Hill’s most memorable moment came in the Bedlam series. A victory over in-state rival the University Of Oklahoma on December 6, 2014. The Cowboys were trailing by seven points in the fourth quarter, and Hill blew the game open with a punt return of 92 yards for a touchdown.
Dismissal From Oklahoma State
Five days later after the game, Hill was arrested on a complaint of having assaulted a woman identified in police reports as his girlfriend. He was dismissed from the team by head coach Mike Gundy who said, “There are specific criteria that have to be met to be on our football team.”
Hill took full responsibility for his actions and apologized for the incident. This experience set Hill on course for a total redemption to continue playing football. He initially chose the University Of Akron but instread enrolled at the University Of West Alabama.
He finished his college career at West Alabama, and the Kansas City Chiefs selected him in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
Reaching NFL Stardom
Hill is now a consensus all-pro NFL player, performing at the highest level. He has made some mistakes and made amends on his shortcomings.
