UCLA Bruins 5-Star QB Dante Moore To Enter Transfer Portal

The hits just keep coming to the UCLA Bruins football program. The Bruins ended their season with a brutal and uninspiring loss to rival Cal, 33-7 in front of a home crowd at the Rose Bowl. After that loss, many fans and alumni had hoped that the University and AD Martin Jarmond would shift direction and make a change at head coach and move on from Chip Kelly. The University (up until this point) has decided to put their faith in Kelly and let him lead the program into the Big10 next year.

Well, now another heavyweight domino has fallen.

Last year’s star of the 2023 recruiting class, freshman phenom Dante Moore, is the latest UCLA player to enter his name into the Transfer Portal.

The Fall Of Dante Moore With UCLA

Dante Moore did not particularly have a good season, 11 touchdowns to 9 interceptions, but the future of the UCLA program seemed bright with Moore at the helm.

There will be plenty of time to dissect what went wrong, but this ultimately comes down to a colossal coaching failure, which starts at the top with Chip Kelly.

When Moore flipped from Oregon to UCLA, he was viewed as the next great UCLA quarterback, and a perfect player for Chip to mold. His high school career was exceptional and his performance in the All-Star game left fans in awe.

During Spring Practice he looked the part of a starting D1 QB, and during the QB split starts at the beginning of the year, looked like the best QB on the roster who was deserving of the starting job. That all changed at Utah, and Chip Kelly did not do him any favors with the play-calling or helping out his freshmen QB.

Bad injury luck plagued the UCLA QB room all season, but Dante’s play seemed to regress almost every game, and you had to question whether the coaching he was receiving was putting him in the best possible situation.

This quote pretty much sums it up:

This is another tough blow for UCLA. Their 2024 recruiting class currently ranks 56th, according to 247 Sports, and with the long-term future of Chip Kelly uncertain, it is going to be tough to build that up and bring in big-name transfers. Especially with how it all ended with the nation’s number-one quarterback.
