Las Vegas Raiders Expected To Lose 3 Free Agents, Defenders Garnering Significant Interest

As the Las Vegas Raiders’ quarterback situation remains a topic of considerable speculation, General Manager John Spytek may also be facing potential challenges in maintaining the team’s defensive core. According to a report from The Athletic’s Tashan Reed on Saturday, safety Tre’von Moehrig, cornerback Nate Hobbs, and linebacker Robert Spillane are attracting “significant interest” from other NFL teams.

Spillane has been a consistent presence in the Raiders’ defense, leading the team in tackles for two consecutive seasons. In 2024, he recorded 158 tackles, including 10 tackles for loss and two sacks.

Moehrig, a four-year starter in the Raiders’ secondary since being drafted in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, achieved career-high statistics this past season. He recorded 104 tackles and 10 pass breakups, while also intercepting two passes.

Hobbs, another member of the Raiders’ 2021 draft class, recorded one interception and five pass breakups in 11 appearances during the 2024 season. While none of these three players are considered top-tier free agents, Tashan Reed’s report confirms that they hold considerable value within the league. The Athletic ranked Tre’von Moehrig as the 26th-best free agent, while NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal placed him slightly higher at No. 22. Robert Spillane was ranked 46th and 60th respectively on those same lists.

The Las Vegas Raiders possess significant financial flexibility this offseason. Their $96.6 million in salary cap space is second only to the New England Patriots, providing them with ample resources to address the roster deficiencies that contributed to their 4-13 record.

General Manager John Spytek should be well-positioned to retain the Raiders’ key defensive contributors, while also enhancing the unit with strategic acquisitions from outside the organization.
