As the Las Vegas Raiders continue shaping their offensive line depth, rookie offensive tackle Charles Grant is getting a trial by fire. According to The Athletic’s Tashan Reed, the Raiders are cross-training Grant at both left and right tackle in hopes he can emerge as the team’s swing tackle in 2024.
Las Vegas used back-to-back third-round picks in April’s NFL Draft to shore up its offensive front, selecting Grant from William & Mary immediately after picking Texas Tech’s Caleb Rogers. While Rogers is expected to get a longer look on the interior at the next level, Grant is being prepped as a potential backup on both ends of the line.
Las Vegas Raiders Detail Plan For Rookie O-Lineman

Grant brings five years of experience at left tackle from his time with the Tribe, but in the NFL, that spot belongs to Pro Bowler Kolton Miller. That leaves Grant’s clearest path to the field as a challenger to second-year right tackle DJ Glaze.
“It’s not easy to switch from side to side at tackle in the NFL,” Reed notes, and the Raiders know that well. The coaching staff plans to monitor how well Grant adjusts to the right side — a transition that challenges both footwork and technique — before determining if he can realistically push Glaze for the starting job.
If the adjustment doesn’t stick, Las Vegas still views Grant as a reliable depth piece at left tackle, backing up Miller. Either way, the team appears committed to maximizing Grant’s versatility, a trait highly valued for backup linemen across the league.
The Raiders’ approach reflects a larger trend in the NFL: investing in adaptable offensive linemen who can step into multiple roles on short notice. Whether Grant ends up being a swing tackle or a left-side specialist, his development will be one to watch as the Raiders’ offensive line picture takes shape heading into training camp.
