Each year, the Los Angeles Rams sign at least 10 undrafted free agents, with the hopes that even one of them can make a strong push to snag a roster spot or show enough to land on the practice squad. This year, once the 2025 NFL Draft commenced, the Rams announced 17 undrafted free agent signings to help fill out the 90-man roster.
But which one of those 17 has the best chance to make the roster? Which prospects are worth a closer look?
The Athletic’s Nick Baumgardner believes former North Carolina Tar Heels offensive lineman Willie Lampkin is the Rams’ undrafted rookie worth keeping a close eye on during camp.
“The most uniquely shaped offensive line prospect in this class, Lampkin is one of the rare O-line prospects who stands under 6 feet (5-11, 279). But the former wrestler used violent hands and natural leverage to be effective in college. If he were three inches taller, he’d have been drafted.”
The Athletic on Willie Lampkin
More offensive linemen? Sure, it never hurts to invest in protecting the quarterback to help set up the rest of the scoring attack. Yet, Lampkin is a very unique prospect indeed.
Consider that the shortest offensive lineman on the Rams’ roster is Justin Dedich at 6-foot-2, and you can see that Lampkin doesn’t quite measure up to his peers. Yet, hundreds of ‘undersized’ players have shown that their talent and heart far outweighs their pre-draft measurables, perhaps Lampkin is cut from the same cloth.
For the low, low price of an undrafted free agent signing, players like Lampkin, who earned first-team All-American honors in 2024, are certainly worth the risk.
