What happens in the contract negotiations between the Los Angeles Rams and Matthew Stafford will shape the season for the team whether or not the 37-year-old QB is on the team. If he is traded, it frees up cap space, but questions remain about the future at the position. If he stays, they still have that question, but have a high-end answer for at least one more year.
Because of that it behooves the team to come to a resolution sooner than later. On his appearance on SportsCenter, Dan Graziano predicts that the two sides will make that determination in the next few days while the NFL world descends on Indianapolis, Ind. for the NFL Scouting Combine.
Los Angeles Rams Could Make Matthew Stafford Decision This Week
“This dragged all through the off-season last year I don’t get the impression that the Rams want that to happen again I think they’d like an answer sooner rather than later. I.e; sometime in the next couple of days so they can figure out what their quarterback plan is if it’s not Stafford. So this is something you could see.”

The team officially gave the Stafford camp permission to gauge his value with other teams and according to Peter Schrager, multiple teams have said they would be willing to pay Stafford his desired wage, over $50 million.

“And guess what? There are teams that are willing to pay him more than what the Rams are currently willing to pay him,” Schrager said during an appearance on Good Morning Football, “And guess what? There are teams that are willing to pay him more than what the Rams are currently willing to pay him. The question is, does Stafford want to go to those teams? And what are those teams willing to give up?”
Confirming that other teams will meet his demands puts the ball squarely in the Stafford camp’s court. He has the choice to stay or go. Will he take a discount to stay?
