The Los Angeles Rams Have A Better And Cheaper Option Than Jalen Ramsey

The Los Angeles Rams seem to be pretty content with their secondary as they head into the summer workout programs. There has been a ton of speculation about a potential reunion with Jalen Ramsey, and while the Rams are certainly open to the possibility, his expensive contract complicates things.

As Peter Schrager said on the Pat McAfee Show, “The issue is he’s making $20 million a year…I don’t get the feeling the Rams are banging down the door to trade for him.”

Never say never, but giving up an asset or two and taking on a massive contract for an aging Ramsey may not be the wisest decision. Especially with other talented options out there.

Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine recently released an article highlighting every team’s biggest roster needs and tradable assets.

It got us thinking about other cornerback back options that could be made available if Los Angeles Rams GM Les Snead wants to get active on the phones.

One such CB is the talented Jamel Dean of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Dean is currently the Bucs’ starting right corner, but he only has one year left on this deal after this season (2027 is a void year), and they drafted two corners in this year’s draft, Benjamin Morrison in the 2nd round and Jacob Parrish in the 3rd round. If they like what they see from their young guys, they could certainly be willing to move Dean to gain an asset and cap space.

For the Los Angeles Rams, Dean would become one of the top CBs in the secondary and give them contract flexibility. He finished last season as the 17th highest-graded corner, per PFF grading. For context, Ahkello Witherspoon was the highest graded Rams CB, and he finished 53rd.

Dean has a roughly $15 million cap hit both in 2025 and 2026 before his void year in 2027, per Over The Cap. Jalen Ramsey, on the other hand, is under contract until 2028 and has the following cap hits, per Over The Cap:

  • 2025: $16.6 Million
  • 2026: $25 Million
  • 2027: $26.8 Million
  • 2028: $36.2 Million

It is also worth taking into account that Dean is 28 years old while Ramsey is 30 years old.

If the Bucs made Dean available, should the Los Angeles Rams pursue him instead of Ramsey? Comment below, Ramily!
