OTAs are officially in full swing, and training camp for the Los Angeles Rams is just over a month away. The smell of football is in the air.
During the offseason, Pro Football Focus does annual rankings for every position based on seasonal output and its own grading scale.
They just released their tight end rankings for the upcoming season, and the Los Angeles Rams’ tight end ranked near the bottom of the league.
Rams TE Tyler Higbee Ranks Low In Latest PFF Ranking
Out of 32 possible spots (some teams had multiple tight ends make the list), PFF ranked Tyler Higbee 26th in the league.
John Kosco of PFF writes:
“Higbee could be on his way out in a contract year after the Rams selected Oregon’s Terrance Ferguson in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He is coming off an injury-shortened 2024 season but has been productive when healthy. His 79.1 PFF receiving grade in 2024 shows he has good play left in the tank, but at 32 years old, his prime is behind him.”
Higbee has been a mainstay with the Rams for his entire nine-year career, and he has always been on the fringe of being one of the top-flight tight ends in the league versus an average one.
His best statistical season came in 2019 when he had 734 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns. He has only had more than 560 yards receiving one other time, and that was in 2022 (when half the team was injured), where he finished with 620.

The Rams are by no means going to kick Higbee to the curb, but they are absolutely in love with 2nd round pick Terrance Ferguson. So much so that they almost drafted him in the first round before moving back and selecting him there.
If he can get up to speed quickly (needs to sign his contract first), then he will have the opportunity to take over the TE1 spot. The question is, can he become the elite tight end that McVay has been desperately looking to have in his offense?
