High hopes surround Los Angeles Rams rookie tight end Terrance Ferguson.
The Rams selected Ferguson in the second round with the 46th overall pick of last month’s NFL Draft. In four seasons at Oregon, the tight end had 134 receptions for 1,537 yards and 16 touchdowns.
While those numbers might look pedestrian, Ferguson was one of the top-rated tight ends in the draft because of his size, athleticism, and pass-catching ability.
ESPN NFL insider Ben Solak believes Ferguson will make a major impact this upcoming season.
“Rams rookie tight end Terrance Ferguson will supplant Tyler Higbee as the starter by Week 5 and end the season as the second-best target in L.A. behind Puka Nacua (and ahead of Davante Adams). Call it 63 catches, 821 yards and six scores,” predicts Solak.

If that projection holds, Ferguson would be in consideration for Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Higbee appeared in only five games in 2024 — three in the regular season and two in the playoffs — while recovering from a torn ACL and MCL suffered during a playoff game against the Detroit Lions in January 2024. He did have three touchdowns in those games.
Higbee is in the final year of a two-year, $17 million contract and will be an unrestricted free agent after the 2025 season.
